About Square Foot Gym

Last updated: September 17, 2026

Square Foot Gym is a small editorial team of lifters who train in small spaces. One-bedrooms, garage corners, low ceilings, thin floors — we've trained in all of them, and we built this site because most home-gym reviews answer the wrong question. They ask "which is the best X?" We ask "will X actually fit your apartment, and will your downstairs neighbor hate you?"

What we believe

  • Square footage is the spec that matters most. A perfect product that doesn't fit your space is a bad product for you.
  • Noise is a feature. In an apartment, how loud something is matters as much as how well it works.
  • Honest limits beat hype. We'll tell you what a product can't do. If a walking pad can't handle running, we say so.

Our testing methodology

Every review scores the same small-space criteria, in this order:

  1. Footprint — in use and stored. We measure the real space it takes, not the box dimensions. If it claims to fold, we check whether it actually disappears.
  2. Noise and vibration. Tested in real apartments and garages — motor hum, belt noise, and footfall transmission through floors.
  3. Ceiling and wall demands. Clearance for pull-up bars, mounting requirements, and what your walls are actually being asked to hold.
  4. Daily livability. Setup time, fold/unfold effort, and whether the gear survives being put away and dragged out every single day.
  5. Training value. Last — because in this category, a great product that doesn't fit is a bad recommendation. But we still lift on everything we recommend.

We re-check picks at least quarterly and update pages when products change, get discontinued, or get beaten by something better.

Editorial independence

We earn commissions through affiliate links — read the full disclosure. Commissions never buy placement, and we publish negative findings when we find them. If a product we have an affiliate relationship with disappoints us in testing, it doesn't get recommended.

Corrections

If we've gotten something wrong — a spec, a measurement, a claim — tell us at hello@SITE-HOMEGYM-DOMAIN and we'll fix it.
